Michigan's Integrated Mathematics Initiative is part of the Michigan Department of Education (MDE), Office of Special Education’s (OSE) mandated activities project (MAP) system of support for initiatives funded under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The mission of Michigan's Integrated Mathematics Initiative is to:
  • Assist the state in creating a cohesive & collaborative system of support and professional development among existing mathematics resources.
  • Identify and promote factors that facilitate improved outcomes for all students in mathematics.
  • Scale the “Enhancing Mathematics Instruction for Students with Learning Difficulties: Algebraic Expressions & Equations (Grades 6-8) course across the state of Michigan

The course is designed to be taught by a pair of facilitators, one with expertise in mathematics and the other with expertise in special education. This is to provide participants with diverse perspectives and to model and foster collaboration.
